The memoirs of author and musician Edmund H Fellowes who was widely known for his part is the revival of English music of the Tudor period. Very good in red cloth with gilt spine lettering, the pages are clean and crisp in a tight and square binding. In a good plus dust jacket, chipped to the spine ends and corners with a tear along the edge of the front flap. Ownership inscription of Gordon Paget, Hedenham Rectory, Norfolk, who was Honorary Secretary of the Norwich Church Music Society. Laid in: friendly correspondence [4ALS]and 4 postcards from E H Fellowes to Paget thanking him for the enclosed signed pamphlet 'Edmund H Fellowes Author and Musicologist', by Dr H C Colles, Oxford University Press 1943. Also letters from the Bishop of Thetford and H Palgrave Raven. An interesting volume with good associations. Very Good 1946

Near Fine. pp278 A comprehensive, lavishly illustrated catalogue of an exhibition held at The Pierpont Morgan Library, New York 27 January-2 May 1999. The catalogue is near fine in glossy photographic card wrappers, a little spotting and light shelf wear to the edges. Laid in: 2 cordial letters from Bryan Maggs to Martin Thorpe in which he discusses a 16th century German binding and two bookbinding tools, and encloses the catalogue "so you are one of the very first to see it". This book comes from the collection of Yorkshire bookbinder and bibliophile Martin E Thorpe who trained at Leeds College of Technology in the 1950's and founded the binders Etherington, Thorpe & Co Ltd. A large collection of photographic reproductions in black and white from the Amateur Photographer Magazine 1938-40, collected and bound by Henry H Holmes of Sheffield in 1941. The pages are clean and the plates bright, the binding of green leather over black cloth is good, half of the back strip is missing, edges worn, the binding is square and tight. In good condition, front page detached and worn to fore edge. From the collection of Kenneth Robinson (1914-2005), a distinguished civil servant who became an expert on colonial government and administration. He was closely involved in international aspects of postwar planning, including former colonies, in south-West Africa (now Namibia), and became the Commonwealth Office expert on French West Africa. He became assistant secretary in the CO in 1946 (and head of the West African department), but resigned in 1948 to become reader in Commonwealth government at Oxford and subsequently director and professor of commonwealth affairs at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies in London. He was vice-chancellor of the University of Hong Kong from 1965 to 1972. Good 1962

A somewhat mournful document begins by admitting that the Council cannot start with congratulations on the 'close of a brillliant session' but hopes to be adjudged 'satisfactory'. There are accounts of lectures by Dr Hunter, Dr Scoresby and a review of Mr Whewell's Philosophy. The account of the year is full of fascinating detail such as 'The death of an Elephant in Mr. Wombwell's Menagerie'. The text is near Fine in Very Good original wrappers. Very Good 1842

London: George Allen & Unwin Ltd, 1944. pp 110 A description of British weather from 1913 to 1942 including temperature and rainfall tables, and illustrated with a series of black and white photographs of the same plants and trees on identical dates through each year, for example the same chestnut tree branch photographed on the first of April from 1913 to 1942. Very good in black cloth with white spine lettering, the pages are clean; in a good dust jacket, chipped to both panels and spine. A fascinating resource for students of climate change. This book comes from the collection of the scientist and pioneer birth-control campaigner Marie Stopes (1880-1958) which was inherited by her son the philosopher Harry Stopes Roe (1924-2014) and sold following the death of his widow Mary Stopes Roe in May of this year. Mary was herself an academic and author, the daughter of the engineer and inventor of the bouncing bomb, Sir Barnes Wallis. 1944

An interesting guide with contributions by Clough Williams Ellis, W J Hemp and Sir Ifor Williams among others. This book comes from the private collection of British Prime Minister Harold Wilson and his wife Mary who died recently at the age of 102. During his lifetime Harold Wilson kept the book in the Ashley Gardens mansion flat in Westminster that the couple shared until his death in 1995. Very Good. pp27 A poetic tribute to the British soldier and statesman, Arthur Wellesley who was created Duke of Wellington on 3rd May 1814. The pamphlet is printed in black letter. Despite engravings being mentioned in the title no illustrations are found except for the vignette on the final leaf. Very good, the stab sewn binding is loose but holding together, the pages are crisp and bright. Very Good 1814
