Description:
London: Privately Printed for The Navarre Society Limited, 1926. First thus. The Newgate Calendar, subtitled The Malefactors' Bloody Register, was a popular work of improving literature in the 18th and 19th centuries Originally a monthly bulletin of executions, produced by the Keeper of Newgate Prison in London, the Calendar's title was appropriated by other publishers, who put out biographical chapbooks about notorious criminals such as Sawney Bean, Dick Turpin, John Wilkes and Moll Cutpurse Collected editions of these stories began to appear in the mid-18th century, and in 1774 a five-volume bound edition became the standard version While many of its accounts are highly embellished and/or drawn uncritically from other sources, they are lively and full of incident, and often refer to contemporary events and social issues Along with the Bible and John Bunyan's The Pilgrim's Progress, the Calendar was famously in the top three works most likely to be found in the average home These volumes are from… Read More

Description:
Harper Audiobook b., 1997. Very Good. Neverwhere is the companion novelisation written by English author Neil Gaiman of the television serial Neverwhere, written by Gaiman and devised by Lenny Henry The plot and characters are exactly the same as in the series, with the exception that the novel form allowed Gaiman to expand and elaborate on certain elements of the story and restore changes made in the televised version from his original plans Most notable is the appearance of the Floating Market at Harrods (in the novel) rather than under Battersea power station (the TV series) This is because the management of Harrods changed their minds about proposed filming The novel was originally released by BBC Books in 1996 This scarce unabridged audiobook, read by Gaiman himself, is very good ex-library in a hard plastic case All the CD's are undamaged 10 CD's pp.

Description:
New York: Alf, 1937. First American Edition. Hardcover. Good. Paul Gauguin (1848 - 1903) was a French Post-Impressionist artist. Unappreciated until after his death, Gauguin is now recognized for his experimental use of color and Synthetist style that were distinct from Impressionism. Toward the end of his life, he spent ten years in French Polynesia. The paintings from this time depict people or landscapes from that region. His work was influential on the French avant-garde and many modern artists, such as Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse, and he is well known for his relationship with Vincent and Theo van Gogh. Gauguin's art became popular after his death, partially from the efforts of dealer Ambroise Vollard, who organized exhibitions of his work late in his career and assisted in organizing two important posthumous exhibitions in Paris. Gauguin was an important figure in the Symbolist movement as a painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramist, and writer. His expression of the inherent meaning of the… Read More
