Later half calf and marbled paper over boards, raised bands, spine in six panels, title label to second panel, date label to third, remaining panels with small fleuron in gilt to centre, t.e.g. Worn to edges, splits to upper joint, but holding well on cords. Internally lightly browned throughout, but nothing too obtrusive. The 'Constitutional Politician' is John Wilkes; 'The Remarks of a Briton' concerns the trial of L. Balfe and E. M'Quirk who were found guilty of the murder of George Clarke, a Wilkite lawyer, at an election riot in Brentford in December 1768. ESTC T86176, showing eight locations. First Edition. Hardback. London: Olliver, 1848. [5], 6-32pp. Modern cloth, title and date in gilt to spine. Lightly browned throughout, otherwise clean. Goldsmiths suggests the author is T. Clutton Salt, but Library Hub calls this attribution 'dubious'. Library Hub also suggests that 'John Bull' is John Stanley. Bury [St. Edmunds]: J. Rackham, 1814. Single sided printed broadside, approximately 195mm x 300mm in size. Slightly trimmed, lightly browned, small amount of loss to left hand side, probably from once being removed from an album, lightly creased, a couple of small tears to margins, with a couple of pencilled corrections/additions to the text. Festival dinner held in Bury St. Edmunds, one of many held around the country, to celebrate the peace and defeat of Bonaparte (slightly prematurely). It ended with an effigy of Napoleon being burned. Suffolk Record Office have a different broadside for the same event, promising other events, including donkey races, male (winner gets a pair of shoes) and female (winner gets a copper kettle) races, and a pig hunt (winner keeps the pig!). Bolton and Manchester: W. Currey, 1877. Photographic cabinet card of Gladstone at his estate resting after cutting wood, approximately 110mm x 165mm in size, dated 1877. Minor rubbing to corners, otherwise quite bright and clean, reverse with printed details of W.[illiam] Currey and initialled and dated in ink by someone to head (dated 1878). A more informal portrait of Gladstone at Hawarden, the National Portrait Gallery has the same image but in a slightly smaller format. First Edition. Unbound. Good+. 16mo. Cabinet Card.

London: John Watkins Carte-de-Visite of the Marquis of Salisbury, approximately 65mm x 105mm in size, n.d., c.1865?. Very lightly soiled, name of sitter to head of reverse, otherwise fairly bright and clean. Reverse is printed with the details of John Watkins in 34 Parliament Street, London, with an ink stamp of Marion and Co. to foot. Slightly rubbed to corners, top right hand corner with small chip, small chip to image (in the window), subjects name in ink to foot of image and twice in pencil to reverse. Reverse with printed details of C.[amille] Silvy, at 38 Porchester Terrace, London. The National Portrait Gallery has a copy of this CdV (NPG x17023). No Place: No Publisher Printed double-sided broadsheet, drop-head title and docket title, no publisher, no place, no date, ESTC suggests London, 1722. Browned and chipped to edges with small amounts of loss, a few spots of foxing, old ink number to top corners. Relates to the election of Members of Parliament for Taunton in 1721, both Trenchard and Smyth (Smith) were duly returned. Trenchard is best known for his opposition to a standing army, against which he wrote several pamphlets. BL only in ESTC. First Edition. Unbound. Good. Folio. Broadsheet.

No Place: No Publisher 3pp, [1] and 4pp, unbound, no place or date, ESTC suggests London, 1766 for both. Both with drop-head title and a docket title to final leaf (trimmed with loss to second mentioned). Lightly browned, faint blue number to head of both. The second mentioned is an answer to the first, noting that it was a paper printed and distributed by [Peter] Taylor, this being a reply on the part of Mr [Robert] Child. Uncommon, first found at BL only in ESTC, second at BL and Bodleian only. First Edition. Unbound. Good+. 4to. Pamphlets.

Nottingham: Bromar Press Eight issues, numbers one to eight (of ten?), between 16 and 24 pages in each issue, n.d. the first issue is 1983, the rest 1984. Original paper covers. Each with a small hole punched to top left hand corner, occasionally catching the odd letter or image but with no loss of sense. Uncommon, one issue (first issue) at Nottingham University in Library Hub, the Sparrows Nest (an anarchist library in Nottingham) holds issues 1-10 (lacking number 3) and a couple of free supplements. Containing articles on asbestos, the miner's strike, Raleigh, Greenham etc. etc.. First Edition. Paper Covers. Good. 4to. Journal.

A broken run of thirty-six political cartoons by Thomas Fitzpatrick from the weekly 'National Press', published in 1891 and 1892, generally 440mm x 275mm in size, seven slightly smaller at 395mm x 280mm.Generally lightly browned, though fairly clean, one or two with small amounts of loss to corners, most with small nicks and chips to edges, several with small Japanese tissue repairs to reverse, a few with larger Japanese tissue repairs to reverse and one or two with significant Japanese tissue repairs to reverse slightly affecting image. One or two closely cropped with some loss to headline, one cropped to foot with loss of text and sense. These cartoons were published between 23rd May, 1891 and 20th February, 1892, many with an anti-Parnell and anti-Freeman's Journal (which at the time was pro-Parnell) message, others more general including several relating to Cork. Rubbed to extremities, upper joint slightly split but holding well, lightly foxed to edges, occasionally to margins and text, but generally fairly clean, K2 with a small piece missing from bottom corner. The first three years, all probably published in the preceding year - 1866, [1], 2-82pp, [14]p adverts; 1867, [3], 2-80pp, [14]p adverts and 1868, [1], 2-82pp, [14]p adverts. Original paper covers, general minor rubbing, creasing, chipping and staining, all lightly foxed and browned internally, the first and third mentioned with heavier foxing, small amount of loss to lower cover of the first mentioned, lower cover and back strip of the second mentioned defective with some loss. The first three years of this white supremacist almanac, published shortly after the end of the American Civil War by John H. Van Evrie, who was described by the historian George M. Fredrickson as "perhaps the first professional racist in American history" (quoted in Wikipedia), here fulminating against Lincoln, the 13th Amendment and any idea of black emancipation. Paley's 'Principles of Moral and Political Philosophy' was first published in 1785, this separate pamphlet was issued as he felt that "the work, from which it is taken, is hindered by its size and price from finding its way into the hands of many who might receive advantage from the perusal".
