Foxon, R197). Work is attributed to Thomas Richards of Jesus College, Oxford. Richards wrote it in response to Edward Holdsworth's 'Muscipula', published: London, 1709. 'Muscipula' ridiculed the Welsh, and Richards retaliated with his 'Hoglandia' a verse in Latin which satirizes Hampshire, Holdsworth's native county. First word transliterated from the Greek. Dedication on p. iii-iv is to "H--S--" [i.e. Henry Sacheverell] and is signed "M.C." (Maredyduys Caduganus = pseudonym for Richards). cf. Halkett and Laing. Signatures: A8.
