Thirty-six hand-colored engraved plates within color wash borders, wide margins. In contemporary diced russia gilt edge tooling, re-backed gilt tooling & titles. Internally, [2], [2], (ii-x) text leaves, followed by 36 hand coloured plates each with a leaf of descriptive text, [4] subscribers list, [2] contents, late 20c marbled endpapers. Text leaves watermarked WL, plates dated 1788, 89, & 90. A remarkably clean example free of most spotting etc. (268*210 mm). Birch, enamel painter & printmaker was particularly successful in adapting his skills for translating larger works to a smaller scale. He emigrated to the US in 1794 & his reputation was boosted by the nearly sixty enamels and miniatures he produced, including George Washington.
