A previous owner's name and date ()ctober 12th 1849) on rev of frontispiece, some foxing to outer pages and a few other brown markings to the inner pages, but otherwise a good tight copy of this two-hundred year old fishing book. Covers fresh water angling in England, the types of fish caught, fishing rods, bait and flies - real or artificial., forecasting the weather with and without the use of a barometer, and the laws regarding fishing at the time. Very slight creasing to edges of unclipped dustwrapper, minor bumping to corners of black boards, both the two sections of b&w plates have some spotted markings from where the pages have become stuck together and eased apart again, more so the first section, but with no real damage to the pictures. But otherwise a good clean tight copy of this hard-cover book containing selections from the author's writings on nature, shooting, fishing and similar topics, taken from his many books and from newspaper and magazine articles, and includes a short story "Gone Away", never before published. Calcutta: Thacker, Spink & Co (1933) Ltd., 1942. Original (not facsimile) dustwrapper has a 3 inch tear to the top right-hand corner of front panel and a smaller, 2 inch one at the top end of spine, and some smaller tears and creasing to the edges of dustwrapper. Minor bumping to spine ends and corners of blue boards, an old price (16 rupees which would have been 21/4 sterling, or just over a guinea, so quite expensive back then) in pencil at top corner of f/ep and original (or a slightly later) owner's gift message dated August 1946 on same page. Otherwise a good clean tight copy in not so good dustwrapper of this not-very-common hard-cover book. Part of the publisher's "Field Sports Handbooks" series, this one deals with duck shooting. 120pp, 8pp b&w illustrations, some b&w drawings and diagrams in the text.. Hard Cover. Good/Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

London: Hamish Hamilton, 1954. Unclipped dustwrapper is very badly creased and torn, particularly at the front fold, and with the bottom two inches or so at the spine torn away but still present. Minor bumping to spine ends and corners of red boards, some corrugation to the b&w plates due to the book havng been damp at some point, but no damage to the pictures. Otherwise a not too bad copy of this hard-cover book, tales from the author's forty-odd years as a big-game hunter in Kenya from the early 1900s onwards. Originally published in October 1952, this is a seventh impression from October 1954. 242pp, 33 b&w illustrations.. Hard Cover. Good/Poor. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Some minor bumping to spine ends and corners of red boards, and the top left-hand side of front board has some fading, but black titles on spine and front are all still clear. Otherwise a good clean tight copy of this hard-cover book looking at rough shooting (of wildfowl, snipe, woodcock, grouse, etc) in the western counties of Ireland as of the 1930s. 155pp, 8 b&w illustrations..
