He was the first Commando soldier in the British Army and led 3 Commando, taking part in raids on Norway and Dieppe and later in Sicily and Italy and then the Normandy Landings and onwards to Germany. Unclipped dustwrapper is a little bit disfigured due to creases in the clear plastic covering it (NOT added by a previous owner, just a manufacturing error at the printers, I would think), but no creasing to the dustwrapper itself. Minor bumping to spine ends of red boards, but otherwise a good clean tight copy of this not-very-common slim hard-cover book. The author's memories of serving with 1 Commando during WW2, seeing action in North Africa and (mostly) in Burma, finishing the War as Sergeant with a Military Medal.. 127pp, 8pp b&w illustrations, 7 maps.. The author's account of his journey through Occupied France after his Halifax bomber was shot down over Alsace-Lorraine in December 1942. An account by a German soldier from Wurttemberg who served in the French army in Poland, Austria, and in Russia in 1812, surviving the Retreat from Moscow. Deals with Joe Lee, a Dundee-born writer and journalist who served in France with the Black Watch during the Great War. He was captured in December 1917 and spent the rest of the War as a PoW. He wrote three books of war poetry but was never really recognised as one of the "War Poets". 224pp, b&w illustrations.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Letters sent by Ralph Verney, an officer in the Rifle Brigade, to his family from South Africa during the Boer War, Australia where he was ADC to the Governor of Queensland, and from France 1914-15, where he was wounded at Neuve Chapelle. The letters end in January 1916 with him being sent to India as Lord Chelmsford's military secretary. 207pp, 26 b&w illustrations. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Some creasing to spine and to lower corners of cover, a previous owner's name on first page, but otherwise a good clean tight copy of this soft-cover book. The author's account of his Wartime service in the German Army, mostly on the Eastern Front, his time after the War as a captive of the Americans, later transferred to British custody when he was sent to work on a farm in Scotland. He eventually married the farmer's daughter and took over the farm. Originally published in 1999, this is a later reprint from 2004. 303pp, a few b&w illustrations.. Paperback. London: Bickers & Son, 1890. "Revised, Condensed and Completed" edition from 1890. No dustwrapper, green bevelled-edged boards have minor wear to outer corners and rather more so to the spine ends, with a quarter-inch tear to the middle of top end of spine. Slight fading to spine, but gilt decoration thereon is still bright, as is the gilt decoration on front board. Binding just barely starting to loosen at half-title and at title page, foxing to outer pages, but otherwise a good clean tight copy of this hard-cover book. Originally published in three volumes in 1839-41, this is a later, "Revised, Condensed and Completed" edition from 1890. 387pp, 12 b&w illustrations, folding plan of Battle of Waterloo.. Hard Cover. Shrewsbury: Airlife Publishing, 1997. A very good clean tight copy in similar, unclipped dustwrapper of this hard-cover book. The WW1 diaries and letters of Norman Ellison, edited by David R Lewis. The author served in the 6th (Rifle) Battalion, Kings Liverpool Regiment from 1914 onwards, serving in Belgium and France in 1915-17 before being invalided Home. The diaries were never published, but he thought of doing so in the late 1920s, and wrote to many people asking whether or not to do so. These letters are also printed in the book. In later life he was quite well-known as the nature expert ''Nomad'' on BBC radio programme ''Childrens Hour''. 158pp, numerous b&w illustrations.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Deals with the career of Serjeant-Major Ronald Brittain, who served for thirty-seven years (twenty as a Warrant Officer) mainly at Sandhurst, the Guards Depot, and at the Mons Officers School. Originally published in 1992, the author's account of his Warime experiences as a junior officer in the Wehrmacht during WW2. Originally published in German in 1846, the memoirs of Friedrich Lindau, who served in the 2nd Light Battalion of the Kings German Legion between 1809 and 1816, seeing action in the Peninsular War and at Waterloo.
