About This Item
New York: Knopf, 1976. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. Crowned Heads," a collection of four novellas about fictional Hollywood movies stars, was Tryon's fourth book, written, according to many reviewers to generate a mega-million-dollar, four-movie deal that was announced the same year the book was published. This copy is from the Book Club edition. About 5 3/4 x 8 1/2 inches, 340 pages bound in black paper-covered boards with author's name in gold on front cover and with gold lettering on spine. Dustjacket's front panel features gold mythological icons of humor and grief topped with crowns; back panel is full-panel b&w photo of Tryon. Text edges lightly soiled, o/w text and boards are complete, clean and unmarked, without significant flaws or damage. Dj has an inch-long tear on front panel next to lower end of spine, other minor tears and edgewear, but still whole with only very minor damage to graphic elements. The book, though it received decidely mixed reviews, was a bestseller for Tryon who left his very successful career as a movie/television star for writing, mostly working in the horror and supernatural genres. He is best remembered for his first novel, "The Other.
