Kirkus Review: ...(A) "psychological study of a selfish, ingrown old woman, who has to live through two hurricanes on the Rhode Island shore to learn that life demands human participation. The Work of an Ancient Hand.

New York: Harcourt, Brace & Co.. Very Good in Good dust jacket. 1960. First Edition. Hardcover. Bright orange cloth with stamped decoration. 313 pages. Worn ends and dust soil, otherwise a clean, straight, sharp copy. The dust jacket is heavily edgeworn with celophane tape on the inside for short tear repair. Now in a removable clear cover. Curtis Arthur Harnack (1927 – 2013) was an American writer. "The stories here stretch from the 1920s through the depths of the Depression when farms were foreclosed and families evicted, and on into the prosperous post-war years. The scope is ambitious, the themes mythical and biblical in tone, and Harnack pulls it all off in fine style. One can guess the author may have been influenced by earlier literary classics like WINESBURG, OHIO or SPOON RIVER ANTHOLOGY, but what you are reading in the end is pure Harnack. I was caught up in these stories and characters from beginning to end. Harnack is an author who has studied his craft and learned his lessons well. Superb stuff." - Tim Bazzett, author of the REED CITY BOY trilogy. (Mr. Bazzett's full review may be found on Amazon) .

By Lewnes, George P.

Vantage Press. Very Good in Very Good dust jacket. 1988. First Edition. Hardcover. Signed by author. Inscribed and dated (1996) by the author on the half title. Clean straight copy. Black and white map of Greece and surrounding area on pastedown only (front and back). First free endpaper blank. Original dust jacket is not price clipped; worn on all extremities without tears or chips. Clear tape across the spine, partial removal causing some damage without paper or text loss. Tikla, a work of fiction is centered around a recently graduated law student, who is recruited and hired to take part in an investigation concerning emigrant backgrounds; he finds instead that he is part of secret task to uncover whether the CIA is running a covert operation without the acknowledgement of President Eisenhower, and the plot thickens. (Conspiracy fodder!) Lewnes eventually became an Administrative Law Judge at the Federal Power Commission (FPC), later the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. This work is presumed to be his only work of fiction (or is it?). ; 8vo .
