With a two-page introduction about Manley by translator Shen Lianzhao which follows the ideological line of the late Cultural Revolution, applauding certain aspects of his thought but criticizing him for holding a "capitalist-class perspective" and clinging to such empty slogans as equality and freedom.

Boston: Meador, 1949. Hardcover. 308p., very good hardcover in chipped dj. Academic, social and spiritual advice for students, by the Jamaican-born Dean of Alcorn College in Mississippi. He was also the author of "The education of black people in Florida" and other books.

Martinsville, IN: Helaine Victoria Press, 1984. Broadside. 12x18 inch broadside, rubricated and ornamented text. "This edition of two hundred broadsides was printed on a Chandler & Price platen press. Design, presswork, and hand composition by Jocelyn H. Cohen using Munder Venezian foundry types and sixteenth century initials... The broadside was printed on Strathmore Brigadoon paper and the type distributed in May 1984..." The press, which took its name from the middle names of founders Jocelyn Helaine Cohen and Nancy Taylor Victoria Poore, started with an offset press in Santa Monica but switched to an 80-year old cast iron letterpress, "the method which was standard when we were trying to get the vote." It was an unusual mixture of lesbian feminist politics with fine press technique, though perhaps most famous for its hundreds of postcards on themes of women's history. The Jamaica-born author was the partner of Adrienne Rich, who also had a limited-edition broadside published by Helaine Victoria Press.

Tokyo: Besutoserazu, 1998. 223p., very good softcover, text in Japanese. A travelogue written by a Japanese visitor to Jamaica, illustrated with several color photographs. Discusses perceptions of Japanese among the local population, musical culture, attitudes toward drug use, etc. Includes narrative of his experience getting caught for drug possession; also travels to a Maroon area and various cities in the interior.

Tokyo: Besutoserazu ベストセラーズ, 1999. Paperback. 191 p., very good in wraps, text in Japanese. Records Yamaguchi's multiple travels to Jamaica as a photojournalist. Copiously illustrated with numerous color drawings and photographs. He narrates his experiences working in Jamaica, the difficulties and dangers this presents, as well as his visits to various sites including Bob Marley's birthplace.
