MISSING ORIGINAL MAPS.INCLUDED MAPS ARE FACSIMILESFrontispiece fold-out map, missing in most copies. Foxing throughout. Title continues: "Under the Direction of the A. B. C. F. M. Performed in the Years 1835, '36, and '37; Containing a Description of the Geography, Geology, Climate, and Productions; and the Number, Manners, and Customs of the Natives. With a Map of Oregon Territory." Rev. Samuel Parker accompanied the American Fur Company's exploring party of 1835 from Council Bluffs to Walla Walla, scouting for locations for Presbyterian missions. Parker returned to New York and informed his mission board of the best sites for missions but was then rejected for missionary work due to his advanced age. Ithaca: by the Author, 1838. First Edition. 12mo (20cm). Rebound in modern blue cloth with original printed paper spine label laid on; new front and rear endpapers; 371pp; large folding map (frontispiece) and one engraved plate. Faint contemporary ownership signature in pencil to title page ("Tho. M. Rogers"), dated 1840; later ownership stamp of L.D. Oliphant on first leaf of text. Parker's map of the Oregon Territory is an important one, described by Howes as "...the earliest showing accurately the Oregon interior," and this is a nicely-preserved example. Also includes early vocabularies of Nez Perce, Klicatat, Calapoosa…
