Bound in publisher's brown embossed cloth, spine lettering gilt, wear to spine ends, scattered fosing. A good copy.

Samuel Parker accompanied the American Fur Company's exploring party of 1835 from Council Bluffs to Walla Walla, scouting for locations for Presbyterian missions. Parker returned to New York and informed his mission board of the best sites for missions but was then rejected for missionary work due to his advanced age. Instead, he published this book about his journey. The map in this volume is the earliest to illustrate the interior of Oregion with any accuracy. Contains a vocabulary of the Nez Perce, Chenook, and other languages.

Cawburn goat leather is made from Indian goatskins, fully vegetable tanned for a two-toned hand polished finish offering an "Antique" effect assisted grain. Boards have slight rubbing at marbeling edges There is no break or abrasion of marbled paper. Map is in overall very good condition.
