In original dark red hardback halfbound leather binding, Cover torn along the length of the backstrip, but only just still intact by a small amount of binding at the top. Backstrip and covers very scuffed, with some of the leather torn off from the corners of the covers. Binding split in the middle of the book, but the two halves are still attached. Pageblock in poor condition, with a liquid stain extending from the bottom to halfway up on the majority of pages. Otherwise, there are no other markings or annotations in the text.This book has hardback covers. Ex-library, With usual stamps and markings, In poor condition, suitable as a reading copy. Original binding of printed grey card wrappers, printed red paper dustwrapper. Light chafing to the extremities of the covers, some scattered foxing; overall, the book is in good plus condition. The dustwrapper is in tatty condition (stained, chipped and torn). It is unusual to find a copy in the original soft covers - most copies of this book were rebound in hard covers.

Quarto, 12.75 x 10 inches, 200 pp, beautiful color frontispiece with facsimile of Victoria's signature underneath (so well done that we had to compare it to other copies online to be sure it was printed). Very good, wraps are foxed or spotty, light soil and darkening to covers, housed in folding cloth portfolio in red cloth stamped in gilt, with wear, waterstaining to rear panel, darkening to spine and wear along outer joints.

Top edge gilt with fore and bottom edges rough cut. Marbled pastedowns and endpapers. Moderate shelfwear and rubbing with cracks to the top and bottom of the front joint but binding still strong.
