Frederick Smeeton Williams was an English minister best known for his works on the history of UK railways. The Midland Railway was the third largest railway undertaking in the British Isles, established 1844. In a red cloth binding. Externally, sound with heavy rubbing and staining to boards. Spine browned with splitting to the cloth at the head. Both hinges tender. Internally, generally firmly bound although strained in places, with map at page 560 loosening. Pages bright and generally clean with age toning to all page edges and occasional light spotting. Ink signature to title page. Good

A later owner's name in ink to the head of the front endpaper - name and date. One corner of the front board bumped - quite notably. Head and tail of spine a little rubbed with a fairly closed nik in the cloth at the head of the spine. Some rubbing to the tails of the boards with slight loss of the cloth.
