Two volumes in one. 8vo. xiii, (i), 298, (2); viii, 308 pp. Contemporary prize binding for the Oxford Local Examinations board, tree calf with a central gilt crest, sometime rebacked rather plainly and the endpapers renewed, spine with raised bands, black spine label lettered in blind, so too another panel directly, all edges gilt. Two frontispieces 23 plates, a folding map plus numerous illustrations in the text. Slight spine slant, a little light wear to the edges of the board, verso repairs to a few of the maps folds, else a decent copy. Originally published in English in 1873.

A very good set, the bindings square and firm with a little minor rubbing to the extremities, a single insect hole to the spine of volume one and another to the bottom corner of the lower board, one each to the upper and lower boards of volume two, and two to the bottom corners.
