Photographic frontispiece with five black and white plates. A better than very good copy, the binding square and firm, the contents clean throughout. Previous owner's bookplate affixed to the front free endpaper. Light spotting to endpapers and half title. The dustwrapper, with a little scuffing to the rear panel, and some general light rubbing to edges and folds, is otherwise bright and complete. Not price-clipped (12'6 net to the front flap). This is a beautiful copy of the Second State of the First English edition (per Cohen), in a lovely, unclipped dust jacket with a few faint rubs and creases. The book is virtually mint, the contents fine. First State copies of this title lack the numeral 1 on page 177. Second State copies have it.
