About This Item
London: G. Bell & Sons Ltd, 1937. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Soft cover. Very Good/Near Fine. 1937 FIRST UK EDITION. Original wrappers with untrimmed fore-edge and untrimmed bottom edge, publisher's printed "corrections" slip tipped-in at page xi. This is likely an advance proof copy or review copy though there is nothing printed on the jacket or book indicating it. The cover consists entirely of the original dust jacket, with complete flaps, adhered directly to the spine of the text block. The jacket is identical to the jacket issued on the hardcover with the same embedded silver flakes, though it is slightly shorter (trimmed to be flush with the text block). Original publisher's printed price of "12/6 net" on lower front flap corner. The jacket is clean, has no tears, tiny bit of rubbing spine ends. The book has no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, some fore-edge foxing, nearly all pages have no foxing, solid binding, complete with all pages, maps, plates. The text block of this example has exactly the same dimensions as the hardcover text block and exactly the same contents including the placement of the errata slip. The book measures 221mm tall x 145mm, and has 265pp, 26 b/w photos on 20 plates, 4 maps, 10 b/w in-text illustrations by Bip Pares, errata slip on last page of table of contents. PHOTOS ARE OF THE ACTUAL BOOK BEING OFFERED.
