About This Item
Paris: H. Manuel, 1920. Ephemera. Very good overall. An autographed advertising card for the world's largest painting, 45' high and 402' in circumference, containing almost 5,000 portraits of notable French and Allied wartime figures of W.W.I. Pierre-Gérard Carrier-Belleuse (1851 -1932) and Auguste François-Marie Gorguet proposed, planned and supervised the creation of the "Panthéon de la Guerre" between 1914 & 1916. It was displayed in a specially constructed building in Paris until the 1960's, when it was moved to the United States, where it now resides at the National World War I Museum at the Liberty Memorial in Kansas City.
Card 3.35" x 5.75", in the format of a postcard but nothing printed on the verso, SIGNED by Carrier-Belleuse on the front. Belleuse and Gorguet are pictured together in the center and 17 other portraits of contributing artists surrounding them. Slightly tanned.
