The narration is smart and entertaining, complimenting the actual seriousness of the plot in itself. It might be introduced as a book for children, but the story might also appeal to an adult reader's taste (like mine). The first person view creates a vivid perception of every situation the main character is into, thus creating a visual environment for the reader to mentally explore. However, the narrator's implied sarcasm might not be appropriate for a book for children--it might suggest making fun of other people by calling them names behind their back, not the sort of moral lesson a parent would want his/her young to develop.
