About This Item

London England: Imray, Laurie, Norie & Wilson, 1921. Hardback. Foxing to end inside covers. Sunned spine and cloth. Previous owners name and date very neatly written to title page. Purple cloth with gilt lettering. A very good copy for its age. Revised and Greatly Enlarged by J. W. Saul. Preface to the Sixth Edition: - In revising the Yachtsman's handy Book, I have endeavoured to include all the problems necessary in navigating a vessel from one place to another by observations of celestial objects, and to present them in such a manner as to render them easy to follow and understand. Logarithms of Numbers, Parallel Sailing, Mercator's Sailing, the Amplitude and Time Azimuth problems, and the Reduction to Soundings problems have all received generous treatment, and the student should have no difficulty in understanding them and should be able to work the 'Examples for Practice' with confidence and facility. Chart work is of such paramount importance in Navigation that the student should endeavour to master every problem given in this section of the work. The Uniform System of Buoyage should be committed to memory because of its importance in navigating rivers, and narrow channels, where there is no opportunity of referring to books. The data for working the 'Examples for Practice' will be found on the last page of each Section. The Section dealing with the International Code of Signals is comprehensive, but the Yachtsman is recommended to procure a copy of the Allied Signal Manual, which contains much valuable information. The Yacht Owner who contemplates studying for a Board of trade Certificate will find the latest edition of Norie's Epitome of Navigation a sure guide to a thorough knowledge of every kind of navigational propblem. For information regarding the Examination for 'Certificates of Competency' the student is recommonded to purchase a copy of EXN 1, procurable at any Mercantile Marine office. J. W. Saul, London, March 1921. Charts, Maps and Advertisements. 182 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions etc.) . 6th Edition. Cloth. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Harback.
