Covers the early period 1830-1849. Hosmer notes that many of the English who were profiting from the trade saw that trace of independence which could be problematic. This, more than a century before the American Revolution. Includes the cases upon which the idea of the Scarlet Letter was formed by Hawthorne. Facsimiles of documents, title pages, and maps. Bound in dark blue cloth, spine lettered in gilt but fading, some staining to upper board of volume 2. A very good set.
