Description:
New York: Viking Press, 1933. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 4to - over 9. 4to, unpaginated; illustrated paper boards backed in black cloth, boards edge worn, price clipped dust jacket rubbed and edge worn with chipping at spine ends. An attractive copy. Marjorie Flack collaborated with Kurt Wiese to illustrate The Story About Ping because she had no experience with Chinese culture and Wiese had lived in Japan. The collaboration was a success, and Ping became a popular favorite, in part because it was featured on the television show, Captain Kangaroo.

George Routledge and Sons. Ltd. London. ND.,c.1883. 8vo. (7.3 x 5 inches). Beautifully illustrated with 8 full page colour printed plates engraved by Dalziel, each with a tissue guard. Double ruled gilt borders to both boards. Marbled endpapers. All edges marbled. Gilt stamped school arms on the front board. The binding is unsigned but is certainly the work of a master bindery. The book is not dated but a search of Copac shows a copy of this same edition in the Cambridge University Library where they have dated its publication to 1883.:

The limited editions were numbered on a special limitation page and signed by Hillerman and Franklin, and bound in purple boards with a gold, embossed picture of Buster on the front board. They were housed in a matching slipcase with the Buffalo Medicine logo of a buffalo skull embossed on front panel. This was Hillerman’s second book for children and it was reprinted in a trade edition in 2007 by Sidewinder Publications, Albuquerque.
