Lightly tipped-in on the half-title page is a note in Walt Johnson's hand, written near the end of his life, presenting the two volumes to a close friend; the remainder of the photos are kept in a tipped-in envelope. Walter Johnson was a legendary steelhead fly fisherman who enjoyed great success fishing the North Fork of the Stillaguamish River and Deer Creek in Washington state, and he is credited with the development of many effective fly patterns for the region. He was also elected President of the Washington Fly Fishing Club. This is a nice example of the best work on Western trout and salmon fly fishing and its fisheries by Roderick Haig-Brown, who is without contradiction the best writer on the subject. A unique set.
