First edition. Part of the 'Navy and Army Illustrated Library'.Prize bookplate to front pastedown, awarded to Edward Evans from the Manchester School Board in 1900.Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, as well as numerous full-page and in-text illustrations. 'Wellington and Waterloo' is a historical account of the life of the Duke of Wellington, as well as The Battle of Waterloo, written by Major Arthur Griffiths. This work starts with a biographical account of Wellington's life, before going into a detailed description of the Battle of Waterloo and its other notable figures. Major Arthur Griffiths (1838-1908) was a British military officer, prison administrator, and writer. He wrote extensively about nineteenth century military conflicts, and was a military correspondent for 'The Times'. With an introduction by Field-Marshal Viscount Wolseley, commander-in-chief of the British Army.Collated, complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart. A bit of wear to the extremities, spine, as well as to the bands of joints. A few marks to rear board. Prize bookplate to front pastedown, with has led to offsetting on front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound, with binding loosening towards the middle. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Very Good Indeed
