Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1883. Second US Edition/Early Printing. Hardcover. Fair/N/A. An early printing of the second edition in green cloth with gilt to type. Fraying to spine ends with just a little loss and rubbing to corners with boards showing at top in spots. Beveled board edges which also show some wear and scuffing, marks and spots to cloth on boards. A little sticker residue with some marking and rippling to ffep and title page which was just holiding on at top and has been reglued. Pages tanned, but otherwise clean and binding still holding.
Synopsis
Walden (first published as Walden; or, Life in the Woods) by Henry David Thoreau is an American classic. The work is part personal declaration of independence, social experiment, voyage of spiritual discovery, and manual for self reliance. Published in 1854, it details Thoreau's sojourn in a cabin near Walden Pond, amidst woodland owned by his friend and mentor Ralph Waldo Emerson, near Concord, Massachusetts.
