About This Item

London: Rupert Hart-Davis. 1968. First edition in English, first printing. First edition in English, first printing. Publisher's original grey cloth with silver titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. Illustrated with 75 plates in black and white in addition to line drawings throughout the text by Alika Watteau. A superb fine copy, the binding square and tight, the cloth bright and fresh. The contents are clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the beautifully clean and bright dustwrapper that has a tiny closed tear at the top of the upper panel and is otherwise without fading or loss. Not price-clipped (84s net to the lower front flap). Scarce. A scholarly and compelling study into every conceivable mythical, legendary or merely elusive water living creature from the Belgian-French scientist, explorer and founding figure of cryptozoology. This is the first English language edition preceding the American edition which was published by Hill and Wang the following year. Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request. Lucius Books welcomes direct contact with our customers.
