London: printed for G.G.J. and J. Robinson, Paternoster-Row, 1792. Collation, xlix+3+475pp, folding map. Recently rebound in full calf, raised bands, gilt lines and title lettering. Binding in excellent condition without any wear. Internally, contents holding firm, with no loose pages, occasional light tanning, occasional dust marking, map repaired, dusty with light stain mark. Pages in good condition throughout. A very good copy, in a fine binding.Book measures 15x24cm. Rochon was appointed astronomer of the marine in 1766, and two years later was sent to the East Indies to conduct a hydrographic survey of the Indian Ocean. His account of Madagascar was written with a view to showing the advantages which might be derived from French settlements there.A57. First Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
