Spine and corners rubbed, and boards lightly surface scuffed. Armorial bookplate of the Earl of Hopetoun to front paste-down. Scattered foxing, a little heavier after p. 240; minor annotation in pencil to p. [292]. A good solid copy. An early reprint of Goldsmith's fictitious "autobiography" of Dr Charles Primrose, a tale of family life, hard times and tragedy including a house fire, debts and imprisonment, which is one of the most enduringly popular and widely read of eighteenth century novels. Brief "Memoir of the Author" to fore.
