An odd-shaped piece cut out of front free endpaper, hinges cracked, spine headers heavily rubbed, light general wear: VG/no dj. 12mo. Mason #310: 1st American edition, later impression(?) with top edges gilt instead of yellow and decorated endpapers. Binding decoration is sunflowers printed in black rather than cherub imbibing seen on some copies. Mason does not establish priority.

The text of the postcard reads: "Dear Mr. Neiman: We'll arrive probably by plane from Washington sometime Thursday morning. I think we should leave the next day; I have a sick cousin in Washington that I am anxious to see as much of as I can. I thought I'd read two poems, 'Beyond the Alps,' and 'Skunk Hour!' (Don't be alarmed by the second title) They are both about 45 lines long and should along with my comment take about twenty minutes. My wife and I very much look forward to the our visit. The postal cover is boldly SIGNED by the 2 men most associated with geostationary satellites: Arthur C. Clake, the famed science-fiction writer who first conceptualized geostaionary satellites in 1945, and John R. Pierce, the Bell Labs engineer who was largely responsible for the development of the Echo satellites. The cover was postmarked August 12, 1975 at the Kennedy Space Center. Provenance: from the collection of Lee Saegesser, Chief Archivist from 1967 until 1997 in the Washington, DC NASA Headquarters History Office. Certificate of Authenticity available if desired.
