Tinted lithograph, 13 x 20.3, 22.4 x 28.8 cm (sheet), crescent-shaped stain (tidemark) affecting the margin upper right , lower edged ragged, but the image in very good condition. From Perry's ''The Narrative of the Expedition of an American Squadron to the China Seas and Japan: performed in the years 1852, 1853, and 1854...'', by the expedition artist Wilhelm Heine, the figures from daguerrotypes by Eliphalet Brown. A view of Longwood, St. Helena, once the final resting place of the exiled Napoleon Bonaparte. Perry's squadron called at St. Helena in January, 1853 the crew visiting Napoleon's last residence at Longwood " In viewing the miserable building, where for more than five years, this extraordinary man resided... it is difficult to suppress a deep feeling of the instability of earthly glory." (Narrative, Volume 1) .
