About This Item

Paris: Javal et Bourdeaux, 1927. Limited edition, #109/490 copies on velin d'Arches paper. Small folio. 123 pp; illustrated with 17 watercolors, including frontispiece, by Andre Suréda, engraved on wood by Robert Dill, and decorated by the artist's headbands, initials, motifs and culs-de-lampe in black and gold. A fine copy in wraps in near fine chemise with sunned spine & lightly split at bottom. Paper-covered slipcase is VG, with one split corner extending mid way down spine. An extravagant and beautifully illustrated edition of this classic. Between travel diary and geopoetic introspection, this is a story about Maurice Barres' passion for the Orient: exoticism, poetry, spirituality, anecdotes.. Hard Cover. Very Good. Illus. by Andre Sureda.
