Maurice Margarot (1745-1815) was one of the founders of the London Corresponding Society, which sought parliamentary reform in England. In 1793 he was arrested and charged with sedition. He was convicted and transported to New South Wales in May 1794. After his return to England in 1810 he testified regarding corruption in New South Wales.
