About This Item
A large reference with little sign of wear. Owner's name embossed on title page. 656 pages. A good place to learn when certain things happened in science. Divided into ten scientific categories. I learned that in the year I was born, scientists determined that humans have 46 chromosomes, rather than 48. Also, the first atomic submarine was commissioned, Thorazine was introduced, Linus Pauling won the Nobel prize for Chemistry, the first hormone was synthesized, and TV dinners were introduced in the United States. The book covers from 2,400,000 BC (Hominids create stone tools), to 1988 (where, among other things, the first US patent was awarded for a vertebrate, a genetically engineered mouse). If you have an interest in the history of science, this is a book for you. This book will ship at almost four pounds. Excess shipping costs are included in the list price.
