London: John Murray. 1991. First edition, first printing. First edition, first printing. Signed by the author. Original blue cloth lettered in gilt to the spine, in the dustwrapper designed by John Craxton. A fine copy, the binding square and firm, the contents bright and clean throughout. Not price-clipped. The pink lettering to the spine of the otherwise fine dustwrapper is faded (the first half of the author's name in particular). Complete with the Waterstone's Signed First Edition wrap-around band. Not price-clipped (£10.95 net to the front flap). Signed by the author in blue ink to the title page. Leigh Fermor's account, in the form of three letters addressed to his wife, of a journey into the high Andes of Peru accompanied by five friends. "Leigh Fermor's use of English is as exhilarating as the stark beauty of the landscape he describes [...] there is no one so adept at evoking the melancholy of raw wilderness" (Daily Telegraph).
