About This Item
Paris: Librarie Generale de L'Architecture, n.d. c.1865. . Folio, blue cloth boards with dark blue leather spine, raised bands and gilt lettering and tooling, 64 full page engraved plates, some water marking to front cover, internally occasional light foxing but plate images good includes superb double page chromolithograph. Daly was considrede to be one of the foremost architectural theoreticians of his day. He, more than anyone else, was able to record the new construction of Paris, under the Second Empire. This is a fine monograph on the two theatres in the Place du Chatelet. They were constructed in 1860-62 on Gabriel Davioud's designs, as an integral part of Haussman's plans for the rebuilding of Paris and the redevelopment of the Chatelet. The theatres were the immediate predecessors of Garnier's Paris Opera.
