Tan coloured boards with black titles to the backstrip. A little bumping to the lower backstrip edge. Browning to the text block edges. Light age toning to the internal pages. There is a small tear to the cloth of the book to the lower book edge on the front panel. Illustrated dustwrapper, with brown and white titles to the front panel and backstrip. A little rubbing to the corners of the dustwrapper and also to the edges of the dustwrapper. In this book the author " ... gives an account of the prison reform movement from its beginning to the present day, surveys contemporary prison systems throughout the civilised world, and forecast the probable future of the penal concept.
