The dust jacket good only with worn edges, a closed tear, and sticker residue. "(a) collection of prepare-ahead recipes that lets you entertain with flair and without fuss. ...They are delicious and can be assembled quickly from ingredients in the pantry. Recipes include: Tenderloin Parnassus (stuffed with mushrooms, ham and bread crumbs blended with sour cream). Orange Glazed Lamb, Mandarin Turkey and Crab Diablo. Desserts include Persimmon Pudding, Cheesecake Supreme, Fudge Crunch Pie." Chapter 10, "Cooking for a Crowd" (twenty-five or more,) boasts that the cook "...needn't sacrifice quality when cooking in quantity." This chapter is divided into Main Dishes, Vegetables, Salads, Desserts, and beverage; no menu is suggested but the cook is encouraged to keep it simple. Sample recipes from this chapter: Beef Bretonne, with eight variations, using beef, pork, chicken, lamb, and cooked turkey. Scalloped Potatoes with 12 variations! Kitty's Cherry Charmagne with 5 variations including Blueberry Flip, Apple Alice, Apricot Tizzy. This short chapter is full of easily followed recipes that sound delicious. Chapter 11, "Coverings and Accompaniments" includes frostings, fillings, sauces, toppings, dressings, chutneys, relishes, conserves and "Nana's Rose Petal Jelly -The likes of which con not be found" each with a selection of variations. Lynn Dallin was a journalist who's varied career included book reviews, music and drama critic, court reporter and co-author, with her husband, books on music. Leon Dallin was a distinguished musical theorist and composer, who was Professor of Music at California State College, Long Beach. ; 8vo .
