About This Item
New York: Doubleday, 1943 This is a very nicely designed war-time book (1943) in extremely good condition. Red boards with blindstamped Chinese character and spine with black gold and red panels. Scarlet dyed top page edge. Illustrated with eight black and white photographs. The dust jacket was also partiicularly attractive, with photo of Madame Chiang Kai-shek in red against beige faux buckram background with gold trim and white and black lettering, but it looks its age now, and is missing large pieces from spine top and smaller pieces from bottom front and bottom back panels. All four corners are priceclipped. Bottom front inner panel bears number 3150-41. Lightly age toned pages, bookstore stamp on back endpaper. Fos in fountain pen dated Nov 1, 1944 on ffep. Some wear to spine ends and dustsoil to page edge. There is a faded sooty smear to bottom page edge. Good solid binding.
