Some of the interior pages have small tears at the bottom from turning then pages of this well loved book. Beautiful, quaint water color illustrations by Leo Politi. Illustrations on every page. Caldecott award winner 1950. A delightful story of friendship between a young boy and an old man who is the Bell Ringer at San Juan Capistrano Mission. Juan, the young boy makes friends with all the sparrows that return every year.
