About This Item

Glendale: Arthur H. Clark Company, 1964. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. Stout 8vo. Pp. 387. Preface. Illustrated throughout with b&w reproductions; fold-out plan; appendix, bibliography, index. Blue cloth with silver-stamped lettering on spine. Dust jacket price-clipped. A handsome book. Includes the publisher's prospectus, a single sheet printed both sides, with a crease where it was folded in half. Lively chronological survey of a rich period in Nevada's cultural history -- eminently readable with solid scholarship. According to the Clark bibliography, "entertainment on the frontier is a neglected field of study, and this work covers that subject as it unfolded in the mining frontier, from the theatre to gambling, prize fights benefits, glee clubs, dances, parades, and hurdy-gurdy girls." CLARK and BRUNET, 266. Bookseller inventory DDDS--DM-DW.
