In a smart morocco armorial binding from Uppingham School, with a prize presentation bookplate to the front pastedown. George Edward Bateman Saintsbury, 1845-1933, was an English literary scholar and historian. "Saintsbury's substantial books came out with notable rapidity. The Short History of English Literature (1898), wholly new in design and substance, was written in less than a year (and later revised to meet criticisms of detail)" -DNB. In a green morocco prize binding. Externally very smart. Front joint is starting. Internally firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with just the odd spot. Prize bookplate to front pastedown.
