About This Item
New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1942. First edition of Hughes classic collection of poems. Octavo, original cloth. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "To Patricia Gibson- Sincerely- Langston Hughes." Near fine in a very good dust jacket. Drawings by E. McKnight Kauffer. Shakespeare in Harlem is a garland of verses about the "dream deferred" to which Lorraine Hansberry refers in "Raisin in the Sun." An old man, sitting on a curbstone, ponders the problem of migration to Harlem from the South and the West Indies.
