About This Item

James Blackwood, London, [1861]. Third Thousand. Hardcover. Very Good- Condition. Book From a review in the advertisement for the book at the end of the text: "This is, we believe, the first time an attempt has been regularly and systematically made to bring out the actual scripture passages to which Shakespeare has alluded, and, therefore, Mr. Eaton has to be congratulated for the manner in which he has treated such a subject." vii, [9]-226, 6 pp (three leaves) of publisher's advertisements. WorldCat shows only a handful of libraries with early (1858-1861) printings. Only one system, the Union Catalog of Polish Research Libraries, reports having this particular printing, which it dates as 1861. Size: 7.5"-8" - Small Octavo (Sm. 8vo). 226 pages. Item Type: Book. Text block is tight, though the paper of the hinges has cracked, exposing some of the webbing. The front hinge is weaker than the rear. No markings in the text, though the pages have toned from age. Bound in mauve embossed cloth over boards. The color of the spine has sun-faded to a gray which, with the texture of the embossing, makes the faded gilt title hard to read. There is spotting to the front and rear covers, as well. Corners bent, but the shelf wear is otherwise mainly limited to the foot of the spine.. No foxing in this copy. Previous owner's signature in ink on the inside front cover. Page edges browned with the top page edges being darker (almost to a gray). Quantity Available: 1. Category: Literature & Literary; Shakespeare; Britain/UK; 19th century; Religion & Theology. Main Picture: Eaton, T. R. Shakespeare and The Bible (London, [1861]; Third Thousand Printing) - Front cover and sun-faded spine. Picture 2: Eaton, T. R. Shakespeare and The Bible (London, [1861]; Third Thousand Printing) - End of text and first page of publisher's catalog (promoting the book itself). Picture 8: Eaton, T. R. Shakespeare and The Bible (London, [1861]; Third Thousand Printing) - Signature of previous owner on inside front cover and the cracked-but-holding hinge.
