New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1964. Redol (1911-1969) wrote from a leftist point of view in a Portugal still ruled by a dictator. Originally written in 1958, this is his first novel to be published in the United States. This is a Fine copy of the First American Edition (stated). Translated from the Portugese by Linton Lomas Barrett. Green cloth binding with gilt titling on the spine; medallion of the author's initials on the front cover. Clean text; 382 pages. Knopf's Note on the Type and Note About the Author in the rear. The dustjacket is unclipped, but has chipping along the margins. In an archival plastic protector.. First American Edition.. Hard Cover. Fine/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
