About This Item

Seven Journeys: The Sketchbooks of Emily Carr, Shadbolt, Doris. Published by Douglas and McIntyre, 2002. First Edition. Card covers. 160pp. In fine, unread condition.

Spanning the years 1927 to 1930, at a turning point in her life when Emily Carr was in her mid-fifties, these sketches record seven significant journeys -- to isolated Native villages in coastal British Columbia and to eastern Canada to meet fellow artists in the Group of Seven. Distinguished art critic Doris Shadbolt, presents a selection of more than 80 of Carr's drawings. Her text, animated by quotations from previously unpublished writings by Carr, takes us along on these journeys, echoing the intimacy and immediacy of the drawings themselves.
