First edition of this book by Janey Canuck, an alias for Judge Emily Murphy, the first female judge of the British Empire, an activist for women's rights and one of the Famous Five. Ribbed green cloth cover boards with gilt print on the spine and cover, tree design stamped in black. Some wear/rubbing on the front cover and corner bumping. Previous owner's name on front endpaper. The binding is secure although there are some cracks and a partial crack in the front gutter. Coloured frontispiece and many back & white illustrations. Text block is clean, clear and unmarked. 308 pp
