About This Item

New York: Funk & Wagnalls, 1883. xxiii, 312p., bound on the cheap with a couple long staples thru textblock, presswork on cream alkaline stock with just a touch of toning; the two-color wraparound cover is mildly eye-catching but inferior cardstock was used and front cover has cracked, detached, and is edge-chipped (now held on by an improvised "brodart"). As is, reading copy of the original issue. Wainwright very doubtful about Darwin's bona fides, methodology, and conclusions. Standard Library no. 97, September 10, 1883.
