About This Item
xii+261 pages with numerous tables, text-figures and plates, with 4 plans in endpocket. Quarto (11 3/4" x 9") bound in original publisher's green cloth with gilt lettering to spine and cover. First edition.
Felsch's book start with a short but illuminating report on the history of the excavation in the site of Kastro Tigani. The first dit at the hill of Kastro dates back to 1928-1930 when W Wredes uncovered prehistoric material, mainly pottery, from areas described as rubbish pits. The pottery was studied by Robert Heidenreich, who suggested that the course, slipped, burnished, incised, and patterned-burnished wares belonged to the Early Bronze Age and are closely related to Troy I sequence. This view was later supported by W Butler and A Furness. Milojcic in Samos I (1961) was the first to suggest convincingly that the Tigani material may belong to a pre-Troy I date, contemporary with the Aegean Late Neolithic.
Condition: Corners bumped, a scratch to back board, some pencil marginalia and check marks else very good.
