Edinburgh: Edmonston and Douglas, 1876. First edition. Octavo (10 x 7 inches; 256 x 180 mm). [1, blank], xiv, 172 pp. With a folding map and 24 additional engraved plates, four of which are printed in color and one of which is folding.

Publisher's full green cloth, pictorially stamped with rams in gilt on boards and spine. Spine lettered in gilt. Brown coated endpapers. Plate facing page 22 with margin repaired. Light dampstaining to plate facing page 23. Folding plate with tears at creases, but with no loss. A bump at bottom corner causing minor indentation of pages. Very good.

"The author was Honorary Aide-de-Camp to the Viceroy of India, attached to the Special Mission to Kashgar. Gordon was one of the first Europeans to explore and hunt sheep in the Tian Shan and Pamir highlands." (PBA).
