About This Item

Boston & NY: Houghton Mifflin. FINE book, VG DJin rodart. 1st edition. 8.5"x6.5". 466pp.. 1935. 1st edition. Hardcover. FINE book, VG DJ(in Brodart). Tight. Bkplt but no wear, aging, foxing, marginalia, etc. DJ clean & attractive but worn. . Book stays closed when stood on spine, so: read with care, if at all. Text block edges with three 1/4" soiled spots. This & bkplt book's only flaws. DJ as bright and clean as new but with several 1/2" chips & one at 1". Millus was a 30 year editorial writer for the New York Herald Tribune which was known for its coverage of international news. Before it folded in 1966 it had won 12 Pulitzer prizes. This book is not a history of the US invovlement in WWI but the history of HOW we got involved. Book ends when we declared war. MIllis was much AGAINST our getting involved. Millis was a revisiobist historian. He'd written a previous book on the Spanish American war. It showed how "..our fighting ferver was fanned by the Yellow Press and party politics to a point that finally led the American people to force a war of conquest upon the helpless Spaniards from the very highest motives." This quote is from a review of that book printed on the rear DJ flap. .
