New York: Stroefer and Kirchner. Good+. 1874. First American Edition. Hardcover. Bound in original brown cloth decorated in gilt and black. All edges gilt. Silk endpapers. [8, 148pp]. Illustrated with photographs of oil paintings of the Swiss Alps Oberland district by G. Closs & O. Frolicher along with woodcuts from sketches by G. Roux. Each of the 24 numbered albumin photos are mounted within a frame on heavy stock paper. Internal hinges & text are tight & intact. This first English edition was not translated directly from the original German editions but is mainly drawn from the author's notes & recollections of tours made through the district. Some rubbing to spine, spine ends, edges & front corners. Slight loss at spine head. A few flecks of foxing on front prelims only. Bookplate of noted mountaineer Vernon Howard. Switzerland. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 148 pages .
